XORCOM XR0008 Astribank is a versatile and powerful channel bank that was specifically designed for the Asterisk IP-PBX. XORCOM XR0008 Astribank extends the functionality of Asterisk-based IP-PBX systems and supports all the common telephony lines and trunks: FXS, FXO, BRI, E1/T1 PRI, T1 CAS and E1 R2.

XORCOM XR0008 Astribank connects to the Asterisk IP-PBX server via USB 2.0, thus eliminating the need for an intermediating PCI (the solution used by other channel banks).

Software
XORCOM XR0008 Astribank's driver has been included as an official part of Zaptel (now DAHDI) since release 1.2.4 (Feb. 2006), making Astribank integral with Asterisk systems. Today XORCOM XR0008 Astribank is tested with Debian, CentOS 5 and trixbox (CentOS 4).

Astribank-based Failover Solution
All XORCOM XR0008 Astribank units are capable of supporting TwinStar, Xorcom's failover solution for complete PBX systems.

TwinStar is a high availability solution that provides automatic detection of server failure and immediate switching of all telephony functions, including telephony interfaces, to a back-up server. It is compatible with any Asterisk-based PBX system that supports a USB 2 connection (such as: Xorcom XR2000 and XR3000). This quick and automatic failover process keeps downtime to an absolute minimum.

Twinstar Failover Demonstration





The TwinStar solution is comprised of two Asterisk servers with identical configurations, and Xorcom Astribank channel banks with dual USB ports. It features:

• Full dual-server redundancy for complete Asterisk PBX systems, including telephony interfaces
  
• Automatic detection of server failure and switching to backup server, within minutes
  
• Firmware-based switching mechanism that is not network-dependent
  

If the firmware mechanism detects a problem with the function of the primary server, it immediately passes control to the backup server. All telephony lines are automatically recognized and activated by the backup server, and all communication in the organization is re-established within minutes.
